Hanno Leichtmann

Soundartist and Curator

Hanno Leichtmann is a sound artist and curator from Berlin known for his influential contributions to the electronic music scene and his festival curations. He began his music career in the late 1990s and quickly became known for his unique approach to electronic music production and performance. His work spans various genres, from experimental electronics to ambient and minimal techno. His artistic vision is characterised by subtle soundscapes, delicate rhythms and a penchant for sound exploration.

What particularly distinguishes Hanno Leichtmann, however, is his role as a curator of music festivals and events. He has curated and organised an impressive range of events, including the renowned „LETRA / TONE, Festival for Graphics and Music“ and the „SYN / CUSSION“ Festival for Percussion and Electronics“. These festivals are internationally recognised and provide a platform for experimental electronic music, audiovisual performances and also sound installations. These festivals contribute significantly to the cultural diversity and promotion of the electronic music and art scene in Berlin. Leichtmann’s contribution to curating these events underlines his importance as a creative designer and organiser in the Berlin music scene.

As an artist/musician Leichtmann has been working primarily as a sound artist based on sound archives in the last 10 years. His extensive work ‚Nouvelles Aventures‘ was exhibited at the International Summer Courses for New Music, Darmstadt and his percussive sound installation ‚Skin, Wood, Traps‘, developed during a residency in Wellington, New Zealand, was shown at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin.

In 2018, he created a six-channel sound installation for the company Sasha Waltz & Guests during a residency at Villa Aurora, Los Angeles, which premiered in Berlin in December 2018 with dancers from the company.

In October 2021, he created the sound installation and audio piece SECULUM for the 100th anniversary of the Donaueschinger Musiktage, the oldest and most important festival for Contemporary Music today.

Hanno Leichtmann lives and works in/from Berlin.
